A new restaurant will open in the Horisontti office skyscraper in Kalasatama on April 30, 2025.
A new restaurant will open on May Day 2025 at a height of 100 meters above Kalasatama. The new restaurant, BISOUBISOU brasserie & bar, will be founded by Teemu Aura and Maiju Åstedt. Among their best-known restaurants are, among others, Mat Distrikt on Tehtaankatu, as well as Le Coucou Vert on Bulevardi.
One of the restaurant’s founders, Maiju Åstedt, says that BISOUBISOU brasserie & bar offers something that Helsinki has been missing until now —not least because of its view. The founders had just opened Le Coucou Vert on Bulevardi and weren’t looking for opportunities to expand their business until they were offered the chance to open a new restaurant in Kalasatama.
“Even our slightest doubts about starting a restaurant and whether we could handle it vanished when we visited the tower for the first time and saw the views from there,” says Åstedt.
A Versatile Menu
According to its founder, BISOUBISOUn’s menu is versatile. In addition to lunch service, the restaurant offers a dinner menu and a bar. Due to its location, the restaurant places a special emphasis on corporate clients and, as a result, on a high-quality lunch menu. In addition, the restaurant is suitable for business meetings and other celebrations—and why not even weddings on the glass-enclosed veranda?
“You can come to the restaurant for after-work drinks, a date, or to spend an evening with friends,” Åstedt explains.
The cuisine draws primarily on influences from French cuisine, combined with a New York atmosphere. “Our goal is to offer guests memorable moments in a unique setting that keeps them coming back again and again,” says the founder.
The developing Kalasatama district offers many opportunities for restaurateurs
Kalasatama’s central location was a key factor in the decision to open the restaurant at Horisontti. Åstedt says the restaurant’s owners believe in Kalasatama’s appeal and are eagerly anticipating the area’s development over the coming years.
“Hopefully, we’ll be able to be part of building Kalasatama’s restaurant scene for many years to come,” he concludes.
