On Saturday, June 14, the Teurastamo courtyard will host a celebration of music and food in the style of a block party-style city festival.
The new Teurastamo Festival is coming to the heart of Kalastama—the brick-built courtyard of Teurastamo—this year. The event, taking place on June 14, is one of the first summer festivals in downtown Helsinki. It is described as a block party-style city festival.
The event is produced by Fullsteam Agency, which has previously organized events such as Sideways.
“Sideways is on hiatus this summer, at least, so we wanted to come up with a new kind of event concept to kick off Helsinki’s summer of events,” says Fullsteam Agency’s Chief Operating Officer Johannes Kinnunen.
The Teurastamo Festival is a celebration of Finnish artists
Kinnunen describes the event as laid-back: “The goal of the Teurastamo Festival is to be a relaxed, one-day urban festival, where you can enjoy music, good food and drinks from the afternoon until the early hours of the morning, and spend a summer day in the company of both old and new friends.”
The day brings together over 15 artists across three stages. Artists ranging from Vesta to Litku Klemetti and Aavikko offer a diverse array of musical performances for festivalgoers. In addition, Lida Moeni and Sami Häikiö will be handling the DJ sets. The full lineup can be found on the event page.
Food will be provided by Teurastamo’s restaurants, bars, and terraces, which will be open throughout the event. In addition, Kinnunen reveals that there will be surprise programming in the area, both in the restaurants and other event venues.
Teurastamo’s unique atmosphere drew visitors
According to the event organizer, Teurastamo was a natural choice as the venue for the event thanks to its unique atmosphere and exceptionally communal vibe. The Teurastamo Festival is organized in close collaboration with Teurastamo’s permanent restaurants and other operators.
The event organizer has been pleasantly surprised by the event’s popularity. “We’re expecting about 3,000 visitors to the Teurastamo Festival, which far exceeds our expectations. The event has clearly and quickly found its niche and its target audience,” says Kinnunen.
