Construction of the community club will begin this year. A contractor for the project will be selected through a competitive bidding process by summer.
At the intersection of Koksikatu and Parrulaituri, community club building, which is intended for use by the shareholder companies of the area’s service companies and their residents. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2024.
The building is being designed by AOR Arkkitehdit Oy, which has been finalizing the plans since early spring. “The project has progressed according to plan,” says architect Kuutti Halinen of AOR Arkkitehdit Oy. A building permit for the community clubhouse was granted in July 2024, and the contractor selection process has begun.
The goal is a high-quality, wood-framed community center
An architectural competition for the building was held in 2022, and at that time, AOR Architects’ “Talas” design was selected as the winner. The building’s design takes into account its central and prominent location next to Kalasatama Park and close to the sea. “We want to create a high-quality, wood-framed new building for the community center that residents will find easy to visit,” Halinen explains.
The plan also takes into account a broad user group, as residents of all ages will use the facility for various purposes. The two-story building will house a café and multipurpose spaces that open onto the park. In addition, there will be adaptable multipurpose space for city residents, for example, for remote work. The second floor will also feature a sauna available for residents to rent, as well as a terrace from which to admire the ocean views all the way to the city center.

The contractor selection process is underway until the end of September 2024. The preliminary construction schedule will be finalized once the contractor is selected. Ideally, the space would be ready by late summer or early fall 2025.
“We’re looking forward to the start of construction and seeing the facility take shape,” says Halinen.
