Tram Line 13, which has been running from Kalasatama to Pasila for a year, has been warmly welcomed. An average of 10,000 passengers use the route on weekdays.
Kalasatama got its own tram line in August 2024, when Line 13 began operating. The route meets the needs of the growing Kalasatama area and provides a direct connection all the way from Nihdi to West Pasila.
The new route was implemented as part of the “From Kalasatama to Pasila” project, which was led by the Sörkän spora and Karaattialliances, as well as their clients, the City of Helsinki and Kaupunkiliikenne Oy (formerly HKL).
Satisfied customers and high ridership
According to the latest data, the line is considered quite successful. In the spring of 2025, HSL conducted a customer satisfaction survey to gauge satisfaction with traveling by tram. In the survey, as many as 81.44% of respondents were somewhat or very satisfied with their tram travel. The highest customer satisfaction was specifically on Line 13: the customer satisfaction rating was 4.60 on a scale of 1–5.
Public Transportation Planner Henrik Kiiskinen says that the high satisfaction rating speaks positively to the line’s success. “This shows that the route has successfully met passengers’ expectations and needs,” he says.
The new route has provided passengers with easy access from Kalasatama and Pasila to Hermanni, Arabianranta, and Kumpula. According to Kiiskinen, the line has received praise not only for its route but also for the speed of the trip.
Smooth travel from Kalasatama to Pasila
The “From Kalasatama to Pasila” project serves as a pilot platform for improving sustainability, and environmental goals have guided the construction of the route. The goal of the “From Kalasatama to Pasila” project was to bring a functional transportation system to the city center. In addition to the tram connection, conditions for walking and cycling along the route have been improved.

According to HSLthe route currently carries an average of 10,000 passengers on weekdays. Passenger numbers are measured based on the number of passengers boarding public transportation vehicles.
