The consulting firm Ramboll was selected through a competitive bidding process to serve as the project designer for the club facility. The architect in charge of design at Ramboll is Juha Lehtonen.
The project steering committee appointed by the service companies met for the first time on January 13, 2020, to discuss the project’s objectives with the architect.
“The communal club facilities, built jointly by the service companies, will complement the buildings’ existing common areas,” explains Jari Paavilainen, CEO of the service companies .
The new building’s facilities will make it possible, for example, to host large parties. The new building could house a restaurant, for instance, and plans also include a private sauna with a large outdoor terrace.
The City of Helsinki has reserved a lot for the project on the edge of Kalasatamanpuisto Park. The process of drafting the zoning plan amendment required for the community club’s construction is currently underway. The approximately 1,000-square-meter community space is scheduled to be built in Sörnäistenniemi at the corner of Parrulaituri and Koksikatu, on the site of a harbor building that was demolished in 2018.
During the project planning phase, the design work will be guided by a steering group consisting of local residents and developers. During the project planning phase, the feasibility of the building and alternative implementation methods will be assessed. The project plan will define the project costs and a preliminary construction schedule to serve as the basis for the investment decision.
The cost of project planning is 56,000 euros. The estimated cost of the entire construction project is approximately 3–4 million euros. Funds for the construction of the facilities have been raised through self-financing contributions made by the housing companies in the area upon becoming shareholders in the service company.
The costs of planning and construction will be divided between Kalasataman Palvelu Oy and Kalasataman Palvelu 2 Oy in proportion to the building rights in each area. Kalasataman Palvelu Oy’s share is approximately one-third of the project’s costs, while Kalasataman Palvelu 2 Oy’s share is two-thirds.

Kalasataman Palvelu Oy is responsible for the Sörnäistenniemi and Kyläsaari areas, while Kalasataman Palvelu 2 Oy is responsible for the Sompasaari, Nihti, and Verkkosaari areas, as well as other areas currently under development.
