Galleria Longa & Fönari is celebrating its 5th anniversary.
The Ars Longa Artists’ House has been operating in Kalasatama since 2020. The house emphasizes diverse artistic activities and brings together people of all ages. Among other things, the space houses Galleria Longa & Fönari, which features rotating exhibitions.
A wide range of exhibitions
The gallery’s exhibitions feature a diverse range of themes from various artists. “The artists themselves have been allowed to choose the themes for the exhibitions,” the gallery states. The exception to this are the group exhibitions by Ars Longa residents, such as the KOTI exhibition, which ends on March 3.
The gallery favors broad themes to give the imagination room to roam and ensure the exhibitions remain diverse. Four exhibitions have already been held in 2025, the most recent of which was Britt-Marie Ekström’s.
In March 2025, Niina Sarkiman’s “The Traveler” exhibition will open. Sarkiman describes her works as follows: “The works have emerged from moments, intuition, and the layering of the mind. They leave room for incompleteness and process. They invite you to pause and look with an open mind, to discover connections and meanings that arise equally from the viewer’s and the artist’s experiences.”
The gallery has been in operation for five years
Ars Longa began operations in 2020, and the gallery is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. Writers, visual artists, designers, and industrial artists who are 55 years of age or older are eligible to apply for Ars Longa apartments.
The Ars Longa Artists’ House is managed by Kiinteistöyhtiö Ars Longa Oy. Its shareholders include the Ornamo Senior Housing Association, the Finnish Writers’ Union, the Finnish Artists’ Association’s Studio Foundation, and Kuvasto ry, the copyright association for visual artists.
The building is part of the Viehe block, which includes housing not only for artists but also for young people and students. The Artists’ House collaborates with the student and youth housing complexes, and residents of the three properties have access to shared spaces, for example. The goal behind this collaboration is to foster intergenerational interaction and a sense of community.

Galleria Longa & Fönäri is located at Tukkutorinkuja 6. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM and Saturday through Sunday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
