The items that take up the most space in the cardboard collection bin in the recycling room are large corrugated cardboard boxes, such as packaging from online stores and furniture, as well as boxes from food deliveries.
Please remember to always flatten them, thank you.
Half as many emptying trips, costs, and emissions
*The average weight of collection bins when emptied is 15 kg, whereas the potential savings from flattening all packaging could be as much as double that amount. This would mean half as many empties, half the costs, and half the emissions.
If the emptying weight increases by 20%
By increasing the flattening of packages and raising the unloading weight by, for example, just 20%, the collection container can hold 20 more typical corrugated cardboard boxes per collection trip.
Increase flattening by 20%
By increasing compaction so that the emptying weight increases by 20%, the number of emptying trips is reduced from 66 to 52. For properties, this means over 600,000 kg less CO₂ emissions equivalent to 4.3 million kilometers of driving.
