Finnfoto’s gallery at Redi has moved to new premises

The Finnfoto gallery located in Red moved to new premises at the beginning of June. Finnfoto has galleries in shopping centers throughout Finland.

Finnfoto ry represents photographic art and culture in Finland and, as part of this mission, showcases photographers’ work throughout Finland.

Finnfoto’s first gallery opened at Red in 2023, and the gallery has showcased the work of various photographers over the years. The Finnfoto Gallery concept brings photography closer to people, such as in shopping centers. Other galleries are located at Ideapark in Lempäälä, Kaari in Kannelmäki, and Goodman in Hämeenlinna.

According to Mikko Säteri, Executive Director of Finnfoto ry, the number of visitors to the galleries has surprised the organization. “We thought the galleries would attract dozens of people a day, but there have actually been hundreds of visitors,” he says.

New Space at Red Following Renovation

The Kalasatama Gallery moved to a new location at the beginning of June due to renovations starting at Red. The new space is located about 50 meters from the previous space on the second floor.

Red Gallery presents a new exhibition every other month—currently, the gallery is showing Lari Järnefelt’sportraits are on view until July 30. The exhibition will then tour Finnfoto’s other galleries, giving individual photographers visibility for up to 8 months.

“There are plenty of galleries for fine art—we aim to fill a niche that is less familiar to the public.”

— Mikko Säteri, Executive Director of Finnfoto ry

According to Säteri, Finnfoto presents a diverse range of photographers and has recently sought to highlight areas of photography that have not been on display to the general public.

“There are plenty of galleries for fine art photography—we aim to fill a niche that is less familiar to the public. For example, nature photography has traditionally been relegated to smaller, less prominent galleries,” he notes.

Next up at the Kalasatama Gallery is Mika Honkalinna’s nature photographs, and in the fall, Meeri Koutaniemi’s photographs,” Säteri says. The spring program will be finalized in the fall.
