Efforts have been made to reduce excess traffic and space-consuming parking spots in Kalasatama so that the area remains as peaceful, pleasant, and safe as possible. For example, service trips related to waste collection have been reduced through the use of a waste chute system, and residential parking spaces have been placed beneath the courtyard decks, away from street level.

Kalasatama is a maritime area where nature is close at hand and where it’s also pleasant to get around by bike or on foot. The area’s future growth has also been taken into account in zoning and road planning, and new, expanding routes will offer even smoother travel options for both public transportation and private motorists.

Residents’ parking spaces are located beneath the courtyard decks, which reduces the number of cars parked along the streets. The City of Helsinki is responsible for on-street parking in Kalasatama, and on-street parking spaces are available for customers, visitors, and car-sharing services. In addition, there are private parking areas in the area: for example, the REDI shopping center alone has parking spaces for nearly 2,000 cars.
