Waste Management in Kalasatama
Kalasatama uses a new, innovative pipe collection system. It represents state-of-the-art technology in the field: waste travels through an underground pipeline network to a collection station, from where it continues on to recycling or incineration.
There are five different hatches for waste: one for organic waste, one for paper, one for cardboard, one for mixed waste, and one for plastic packaging. Each chute can hold a maximum of one 20-liter bag at a time.
Thanks to the underground waste collection system, service traffic in the area has been reduced, and the residential environment remains safer and more pleasant. Kalasataman Jäteputkikeräys Oy is responsible for the system’s operation.
Above-ground resident parking
Kalasataman Palvelu Oy builds and maintains parking spaces in the Kyläsaari area. In the rest of Kalasatama, the housing companies themselves are responsible for parking facilities, and the City of Helsinki is responsible for on-street parking.
