Housing Company Introduction
Sumppi is a resident-driven collaborative housing project that was designed and built by its residents, so Sumppi reflects the personalities of its residents. The main entrance leads to a cozy lobby with a sofa set where residents can gather. This community-oriented building features a multipurpose space equipped with commercial-grade kitchen appliances, large enough for yoga and parties, and capable of seating 60 people for meals. The building includes a gym, two saunas, a guest room, and a rooftop garden, in addition to traditional utility spaces such as a laundry room, a bike storage room, storage areas for personal belongings, and stroller storage.
The building is constructed on bedrock atop the original Sompasaari site; the load-bearing structures consist primarily of reinforced concrete elements with cast-in-place intermediate floors. The building is heated using geothermal energy, which is distributed to the apartments via underfloor heating. In the summer, the ground provides cooling for the apartments. Energy is also generated by a wastewater heat recovery system and solar panels. The apartments are equipped with individual ventilation systems featuring heat recovery. There are 39 apartments, each individually designed to reflect the personality of its resident.
Sumppi is located in Sompasaari, at the corner of Loviseholminpolku and Kaljaasi Auroran kuja, on the eastern edge of Loviseholminpuisto Park.
